Combi boiler
Combi boilers provide hot water on demand direct from the mains, meaning good pressure and no cylinder or water tanks in the loft are required.
Traditional boiler and cylinder
Will have cold water tanks in the loft and usually in an airing cupboard for the hot water cylinder, heated from a boiler. Also known as conventional or regular boilers.
System boiler
If you have no cold water storage tanks but have a cylinder (and usually a pressure gauge) then you will likely have a system boiler.
Back boiler
Back boiler units/BBU's are built in to the chimney breast behind a gas or electric fire. These will also have a cylinder and cold water tanks.
